Differences in State Visions on Personalized Learning
To continue to compare the visions of the states included in this study, contrasting the state visions is also needed.
1. Of the four states studied, only Georgia made a point to include the need for continued professional development of the instructor and the learning coach. This continued professional development is needed to ensure the leaders of the personalized learning courses are set suited for student success.
2.Vermont is the only state studied here that makes a specific mention of the importance of personal relationships. This is the first attribute listed by Vermont, which shows the importance of this attribute in the success of the students. This really can be the foundation of the all student successes.
3. Rhode island is the only state studied that included the use of technology by instructors as a way to monitor student growth and needs to be successful. This is important as it gives the teachers a mandate to use the technology provided by the state to keep each student on their path or pace.
4. Georgia is the only state that mentions a use of portfolios for assessments. This is a strong assessment form, especially in the personalized learning format. A portfolio will allow growth to be shown over the entire course, which is the goal personalized learning individualized paths.
5. Neither Massachusetts or Vermont describe the use of diversified learning environments, such as individual, small group, or large group. This is important because many times PL learning environments are seen as more individual rather than working wth groups or class-wide activities.
